Matter HRI Study Transfer App Privacy Policy

Read this policy to understand how we keep your data safe and secure.

The Matter HRI Study Transfer App is being made available for the exclusive use of registered participants in the “What Matters for Wellbeing” Study by the Happiness Research Institute and Matter Neuroscience. We only collect the data we need to conduct the study. A signed informed consent and a unique study participant identifier are required to use this app. For questions about the study, eligibility, or related issues should be directed to the study site or emailed to study@happinessresearchinstitute.com.

Terms

For the purposes of this privacy policy, We, Us, and Our refer to Matter Neuroscience Inc., dba Matter.

This policy describes how we collect and use information about people who use the Matter HRI Study Transfer App (the “Transfer App”) in connection with the “What Matters for Wellbeing” Study. For privacy issues pertaining to Matter’s Website (www.matter.xyz), the Matter Neuroscience App (the “Matter App”), and related services, tools, and features, please refer to the privacy policy found at: https://matter.xyz/privacy

You and Your means you as a registered participant in the “What Matters for Wellbeing” study and a user of the Transfer App.

Data collection 

The purpose of the Transfer App is to facilitate the linkage of memory score data collected in the Matter App (“Matter App Data”) to the data collected elsewhere for the “What Matters for Wellbeing” Study (“Study Data”). 

  • The data the Transfer App collects from or about you (“Transfer App Data”) includes:Matter Data, including information associated with Memories you upload to the Matter App:

  • Date and time a Memory is created

  • Content you upload to a Memory (solely in encrypted form) 

  • Participant ID Code 

  • Data we derive from the Memories you upload to the Matter App:

  • The total Matter Score of individual Memories

  • Cumulative Matter Scores (over days, weeks, years, etc.)

Data Usage & Transfer 

We use the data described above in the following ways:

  • When you use the app you may choose to manually authorize the transfer of your Matter App Data via the Transfer App. Once authorized by you, your Matter App Data will be sent to the research team where it will be securely stored on password-protected, encrypted computers.

  • Only members of the study research team will have access to the raw data you send. 

  • Individual data will never be made public. Data collected will be reported at a group, aggregated level such that no shared findings will be personally identifiable. 

  • The Transfer App Data collected about you via the Transfer App will only ever be used in connection with the “What Matters for Wellbeing” Study. 

  • Data will be deleted by the study research team after a period of 10 years. 

California residents

If you are a California resident, you have the following rights under the CCPA and CPRA:

  • The right to know what personal information we collect about you, including the categories of personal information, the categories of sources from which personal information is collected, the business or commercial purposes for collecting personal information, and the categories of third parties to whom we disclose personal information. You can find this information in the “Data Collection” section of this Privacy Policy.

  • The right to access/receive a copy of the personal information we have collected about you.

  • The right to correct inaccurate personal information that we maintain about you.

  • The right to delete personal information we have collected from you.

General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)

Lawful Basis for Processing

We process your personal data based on the following lawful grounds: (i) your explicit consent, which you can withdraw at any time; (ii) the necessity of processing for the performance of a contract to which you are a party; (iii) compliance with our legal obligations; and (iv) our legitimate interests, provided they do not override your rights and freedoms.

Data Subject Rights

As a data subject under the GDPR, you have the following rights:

  • The right to access your personal data and obtain a copy.

  • The right to request correction of any inaccurate data.

  • The right to request erasure of your data ('right to be forgotten').

  • The right to restrict or object to the processing of your data.

  • The right to data portability, allowing you to transfer your data to another service provider.

  • The right to withdraw consent at any time, where consent is the basis for processing.

  • The right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority.

International Data Transfers

If your personal data is transferred outside the European Economic Area (EEA), we ensure that appropriate safeguards are in place, such as the use of standard contractual clauses approved by the European Commission, to protect your data in accordance with GDPR standards.

Right to Lodge a Complaint

If you believe that your data protection rights have been violated, you have the right to lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority.

Withdrawal

If at any point you want to withdraw from the “What Matters for Wellbeing” study, you may do so without penalty up until the end of the data collection period (January 31, 2025). All data linkages are optional, and you are free to not answer any survey questions without having to justify yourself. You also have the right to request that your previous data is deleted by emailing the research team at study@happinessresearchinstitute.com

Changes to this policy

If we make changes to this privacy policy, we will update it here and update the effective date at the top and we will notify you via the Study Administrators. Changes to this policy will not apply retroactively.
