human thriving

Matter is built on the belief that scientific and technological breakthroughs should expand human capacity, not diminish it. We use neuroscience and AI to help people understand their brains, strengthen memory and emotional awareness, and enjoy richer, more connected lives.

AI-enabled coaching with one goal: your emotional fitness

Matter turns the latest neuroscience research on the brain and well-being into a simple daily practice anyone can use.

Helping humans reconnect with their biological compass for thriving

Matter has no interest in stealing your life time, grabbing your attention, or optimizing you for economic productivity. Coaching sessions have a defined purpose and natural daily stopping point, helping users listen to their own emotional and biological signals rather than stay endlessly engaged.

A counter-pattern to ill-designed consumer technology

Most consumer apps optimize for isolating the individual alone with their screen. Matter is designed to encourage real-world connection, family, friendship, community, and embodied life.

No training on user data

Matter does not use user data to train its own or third-party foundational models.

Matter App is private image

Your privacy is our non-negotiable

Personal memories remain personal: your photos can only be viewed when decrypted on your device. Our users' emotional lives are not material for exploitation.

A note from our CEO, Axel Bouchon

I’ve been recording memories in Matter since 2020. My Matter Memory Vault—which now stores over 1,500 of my best moments—has had a profound impact on my life.

This collection of memories allowed us—together with our partners at Maastricht, Copenhagen and Stanford—to design the experiments which decrypted the biological code for human happiness. It allowed me to understand why I faced so many sad and frustrating periods in my life. It taught me to understand all my emotions, finally experience them without any ambiguity and embrace life to the fullest.

That said, while my personal memory vault is very powerful, much more powerful than I ever imagined, it is also deeply private. My memories reveal what I love, desire, and hope for. Who or what turns them on and turns them off. Like any power its vector determines the outcome: the same memories that guide me to a really awesome life can enable others to build my "Room 101". So from the beginning, we believed that any machine intelligence built on top of the Matter framework had to be different from a general chatbot. It had to have a narrow purpose, strong, clear privacy boundaries, and enormous respect for each individual’s human experience. We have delayed this launch more than once because the product did not yet feel good enough, personal enough, or safe enough. In fact, I never uploaded my memory vault to any of our own prototypes in the past.

This time is different.

Welcome to the Matter Club

Humans are pretty awesome because we learn from and enjoy experienced reality.

No AI or machine will ever be able to do that.

But we hope that M can help bring us to our next level.
