Emotion-based interventions in depression

Brain scanning technology MRI

Matter Neuroscience is pleased to announce a collaboration with Stanford Medicine's Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences Department. This study, led by the Stanford Brain Stimulation Lab (BSL), investigates the safety and efficacy of using real-time fMRI neurofeedback techniques combined with the Matter protocol to support emotion-based interventions in patients with Major Depressive Disorder (MDD).

The clinical trial uses a high-resolution 7T MRI scanner to provide real-time feedback on participants' brain activity, helping them learn to self-regulate the signals associated with positive emotions. Participants in the study use the Matter Neuroscience iOS app to collect and reflect on personal photos that capture positive memories, which are used in the home-based training portion of the study.

The goal is to translate this approach into a non-pharmaceutical treatment for depression by exploring how this targeted emotion training influences mood-related brain circuits.
